F2 Mandolin kit features

The F2 kit is basically a simplified version of the F4. The F2 is bound only around the fretboard and soundboard and features a plain maple rim and backboard. The neck is typically finished in a natural color, the rim and backboard usually finished in a deep red mahogany color, and the soundboard can be either natural, dark brown, or black.

Options: To determine the cost of an option, calculate the difference in price between the part that comes with the kit and the option you want. Include that difference with your order and be sure to indicate which option you would like

** Neck joint: See price list for additional cost of these options. (And, check our FAQ section for more information on various neck joints.)

*** Soundboard options: The standard soundboard for our kits is Sitka spruce. Generally speaking... Sitka spruce provides a full, bright, tone. German silver spruce has a full but "dark" tone. Adirondack red spruce is generally "warm" with clear bass and treble balance. Western fir typically delivers a very bright "bark" tone and is a bit stronger in the treble registers. California redwood, an often overlooked soundboard material for mandolins, provides the excellent warm, deep, tonal quality typically associated with older mandolins. See price for the difference in price between the Sitka spruce soundboard and the soundboard of your choice. Be sure to indicate which soundboard option you would like and include the price difference with your order.

Other options: Since our kits are prepared to order, you can select any other option you choose. For example, you could ask for no soundhole, or you could have a rosewood bridge insead of an ebony bridge, and so on. Contact us for pricing on your personalized kit needs.
